Bumble Lets Users Login Without Facebook
WIRED.CO.UK - Apr 16 - Dating app Bumble has changed its login system that lets users register and login without sharing information with Facebook. Despite the change, people can still login to Bumble using their Facebook account. "Many of our users and prospective users asked for an alternative registration method," says Louise Troen, Bumble's VP of International Marketing and Communications.
Why Momo Shares Rose 13% In March
THE MOTLEY FOOL - Apr 16 - Momo shares jumped 9% on March 7 upon the release of fourth-quarter and full-year 2017 earnings. The company continued to benefit from growth in live video services, which, at $328M, accounted for 85% of total revenue during the quarter. During March, shares also continued to benefit from Momo's announcement that it's acquiring privately held Chinese social and dating app provider Tantan. Momo will pay $600.9M in cash and fork over 5.3M newly issued Class A ordinary shares in the transaction.

Raya calls itself a "private, membership based community." Sparkology describes itself as a "curated dating experience for young professionals" and accepts members only by invitation or referral. More Americans are seeking spouses with similar levels of schooling, a pattern known as assortative mating. Couples in which both members had at least a four-year degree made up 14.7% of all married people in the U.S. in 2015, up from 1.9% in 1960, when far fewer women attended universities.

Furor Erupts In China As Sina Weibo Bans Gay Content
NEW YORK TIMES - Apr 15 - With hashtags like #Iamgaynotapervert and images of hearts and rainbows, tens of thousands of Chinese residents took to social media over the weekend to protest efforts to censor gay-themed images, videos and cartoons. Sina Weibo, a Twitterlike site, said that it was trying to limit the spread of sexually suggestive and violent content and that it would target cartoons, pictures, texts, short videos and romantic fiction. The site said its aim was to promote a "clear and harmonious" environment. Many activists saying that its attempts to limit free speech had gone too far and that gay people were being punished because their culture was considered out of the mainstream. Ma Baoli, the founder of Blued, a gay dating app, said the country's lack of sexual education had exacerbated a culture of intolerance.
Niche Dating Site Muzmatch Set To Launch Internationally
THE NATIONAL - Apr 16 - There are "enormous" money-making opportunities in online dating, says Victor Anthony, managing director of Internet and media at Aegis Capital. "Players with scale will continue to dominate the market, but there are also opportunities for niche operators to compete as well." One such niche operator is Muzmatch, a dating app for Muslims based in Aldgate, central London. The company was set up four years ago by Shahzad Younas, a former investment banker at Morgan Stanley, and software engineer Ryan Brodie, with the aim of helping young professional Muslims find partners within the community. It is backed by Hambro Perks, a venture firm co-founded by City veteran Rupert Hambro and former investment banker Dominic Perks, which backs British businesses with global ambitions. In January, Muzmatch raised Ł1.5M to expand internationally. Joining is free, but users can opt for a premium subscription which costs Ł19.99.

Dutch Recognises Issue Of Fake Profiles On Dating Sites
TELECOMPARER - Apr 18 - The Dutch government said it was not able to determine how many fake profiles there were on dating sites. The government said regulator ACM is conducting an investigation into the matter. In general, the Civil Code stipulates that all providers of products and services must provide honest information so that consumers can make a good decision.
Spark: LinkedIn + Tinder To Launch Soon
MUMBRELLA - Apr 17 - Spark, launched by Chris Reed, helps professionals on LinkedIn match with other people on LinkedIn who are also looking for a relationship by combining Tinder with LinkedIn. The move comes following a number of reports involving women receiving unsolicited non-work related messages on LinkedIn. Reed said Spark would seek to avoid allegations of LinkedIn harassment and stalking by encouraging users to message potential dates on Tinder and use LinkedIn to determine whether the person 'fits the bill'.
