The Ford EcoSport has been up for the grabs for around half a decade now and is still going strong. In fact, the recent facelift has got it to be more attractive than it was before. A bossy stance, feature-rich interior and a powerful engine under the hood, the Ford small SUV has every ingredient to be the perfect car. However, the popularity of the EcoSport had been cut short by the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza initially, followed up by the recent Tata Nexon. And though the Brezza looked like a totally different car than the Ford, the Nexon is more like a direct competition, powerful and muscular.
So which one among the EcoSport and Nexon is better and deserving? The answer lies below. In terms of designing
The EcoSport became best-selling Ford car in India because of one main reason - the beefy exterior design. It almost looked like a premium hatchback on a steroid overdose. The high front hood matches up the bulked-up sides and tailgate-mounted spare wheel design perfectly.
We haven’t had a car with that kind of design until the Tata Nexon came around in September 2017. It has the same beefy appearance but is distinct in its own way. And to be honest, the Nexon look more like an urban car. The faux ceramic inserts on the window sill, tailgate and fog lamps area look unique and fresh. The contrasting colour roof and the aggressive black body cladding look more pleasing to the eyes.In terms of the engine
The last upgrade on the Ford EcoSport has seen the engines being updated. The smaller turbocharged engine was discontinued and the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine was tweaked up to make more power. So now, the car is offered in just the two engine options. The 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine makes 121 bhp of power and 150 Nm of torque. The other 1.5-litre TDCi diesel 99 bhp of power while making 205 Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the Tata Nexon comes with a smaller 1.2-litre petrol motor making 108 bhp power and 170 Nm torque. The other diesel engine has a 1.5-litre capacity has the same 108 bhp power and a humongous 260 Nm torque.
Though we see that the petrol EcoSport has more power on offer, the abundant torque on the Nexon makes it more fun to drive and more responsive on the accelerator pedal. Moreover, the diesel model of the Ford car would not even come close to the Nexon counterpart as both the power and torque are significantly higher. So, in ways more than one, the Tata is more powerful of the two.The decision
The Ford EcoSport may have served the Indian automobile market for a good period of time. However, the modern approach of the Tata Nexon gets it to the lead. It has a better design and a more powerful engine mechanism. Plus, it will save you around Rs. 1.5 lakhs on the price tag.
