Happn Launches Matching Game - CrushTime
MASHABLE - July 6 - Happn is launching a new feature called CrushTime. It's an addictively simple little game that's being tested in Spain and will be rolling out globally throughout the summer. It works by showing users four different profile pictures of people they've recently been near. One of them will be a person who's already liked them, and they have to guess who it is. If users guess right and they're interested, they can connect right then. Users can't decide when they want to play this game. It just appears by chance. When it comes they have to take it.http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/new ... htime.html

Happn Is Launching In San Francisco
FAST COMPANY - July 5 - Happn is launching locally in San Francisco. The app is already live in New York City and a few other U.S. markets. In total, the app boasts 2.5M users worldwide. Like Tinder, Happn's functionality relies on users' location, but instead of surveying the surrounding neighborhood or city, it zooms in much more closely, to a 275-yard radius. The app's purpose is to help users "find the people they've crossed paths with." Happn offers users a form of digital flirtation called "charms." If users haven't matched up yet, they can send somebody a charm to get their attention. Every user gets 10 free charms. Once those are used up, they can purchase 10 more for $1.99.http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/new ... cisco.html

LGBTQ Rights In China Looking Gloomy After Taiwan's New Ruling On Same-sex Marriage
THE CONVERSATION - July 3 - On May 24, Taiwan's constitutional court ruled that same-sex couples have the right to legally marry, becoming the first place to do so in Asia. For the 70M LGBTQ people in neighbouring China, the news was bittersweet. Homosexuality has been legal in China since 1997, but the proposal to legalise same-sex marriage failed to pass on three occasions. The country's most iconic lesbian social media platform Rela was shut down on May 26 without any official explanation. The shutdown led to widespread outrage among LGBTQ communities in China. Rela has ~1.5M monthly active users, with 10% from overseas. Despite the shutdown of Rela, both academics and activists take an optimistic view of the development of China's LGBTQ rights. A key catalyst for the same-sex marriage discussion is tongqi (??) phenomenon, a Chinese term used to describe women who marry gay men. There are ~16M tongqi in China, and they are now an emerging force pushing for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the country.http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/new ... riage.html

Dating Apps Are Embracing Video
TECH CRUNCH - June 28 - This week, both Hinge and Zoosk's Lively are rolling out support for video, each in their own way. Hinge will now allow users to add videos up to 30 seconds long into their profile by pulling from those that already exist on their phone. However, it's shying away from short-form, disappearing videos like those found in Instagram, Snapchat, or Messenger "Stories." Meanwhile, Zoosk's newer product Lively is hoping to capitalize on video to bring more people to its app. In Lively, users upload photos and videos that are then turned into story collages, which also include transitions and movement. Again, the idea is that using video can show off someone's personality much better than static, photo-only profiles. Now, Zoosk is pushing the bar even further in terms of video with the launch of live video chat. Users will be able to pick a topic and start chatting with others who are also available to chat. But the screen will be blurred so users feel more comfortable. Bumble will roll out its own video support as well. Even Match.com is getting into the video game with its Stories feature.http://www.onlinepersonalswatch.com/new ... video.html
