Inside The Secret Version Of Tinder Select

BUSINESS INSIDER - June 14 - Tinder Select is a secret version of Tinder for "celebrities, models, and millionaires." Tinder has never officially acknowledged Tinder Select exists, and there's a lot of misinformation out there about it. It functions the same way regular Tinder does. There is no separate feed where users can swipe only on selected members. When Tinder Select users run across someone who is also a Tinder Select member, they appear with a blue border around their picture, and a badge that says "Select" along the top. There's a supercharged algorithm that pushes profiles toward the front of the feeds of people they had swiped "yes" on. Right now, Tinder Select simply seems like a way to make its top users happy, and perhaps more likely to stick around on the app.

How Violet Lim Started Lunch Actually

ASIA ONE - June 12 - Lunch Actually founder Violet Lim gave corporate life a shot but came to the conclusion that she should start her own business. It was due to her job at a bank that allowed her to see a gap in the market. "I noticed a lot of my colleagues were single. Her friends who were about to tie the knot had met each other in university. "If you miss that opportunity, it gets more difficult. It's a real thing." Lim and her husband Jamie Lee founded Lunch Actually in 2004. Today, her company boasts ~100 employees with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia. They have arranged 63k dates across Asia.

The app, which launches nationwide for iOS today, is the brainchild of Truman Kain, a 25-year old from LA. His goal is "getting people off of their phones and onto the date."

This Is What Makes Tinder So Seductive

THE CONVERSATION - June 11 - According to AppAnnie, Tinder has been ranked as the most-downloaded lifestyle app in America for two years. While most dating sites attempt to connect users based on algorithms, Tinder does nothing of the sort. Tinder's approach to romance is straightforward and yet brutally effective. Matches are made using sparse criteria: Looks, availability and location. In a study on the brains of drug addicts, researchers found that the expectation of the drug caused more release of the feel-good neurotransmitter dopamine than the drug itself. Similarly, for those who may be expecting the next swipe on Tinder to lead to reward, serial swiping can start to look and feel a lot like addiction. A 2017 qualitative study of motivations for using Tinder found that love was a more common motivation for using Tinder than casual sex.
