BharatMatrimony Buys SecondShaadi.com

VCCRICLE - Mar 1 - Matrimony.com, which owns BharatMatrimony, has acquired SecondShaadi.com from Accentium Web. Matrimony.com received board approval for the acquisition on Thursday. It did not disclose the value of the deal. "Buying SecondShaadi will help us consolidate our offerings and help divorcees and widowers get wider choices than ever before," Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO of Matrimony.com, said. Like SecondShaadi.com, Matrimony.com also operates a platform for divorcees called DivorceeMatrimony.com. In September 2016, the Bombay High Court had ruled in favour of SecondShaadi.com against a petition filed by People Interactive, which owns rival matrimonial portal Shaadi.com. Shaadi.com wanted Accentium Web Pvt. to stop using the word 'shaadi' in its domain name. However, the court said in its order that the word 'shaadi' is generic, and hence, Shaadi.com cannot stop others from using the word as a prefix or suffix for their portals.

Alexis Ohanian And Tinder Are Petitioning Unicode For Interracial Couple Emoji

THE VERGE - Feb 27 - Tinder is launching a campaign called #RepresentLove, in collaboration with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and Emojination founder Jennifer 8. Lee, with the goal of petitioning Unicode to introduce interracial couple emoji. The Change.org petition reads "Why is Tinder involved? We believe all love deserves emoji representation." Emoji have been customizable with various skin tone options since 2015, and Microsoft introduced 52K new emoji with the release of Windows 10 in 2016, to account for all possible combinations in a family unit. But diverse emoji family units are still hard to make across platforms; Facebook added 125 new family emoji options last summer, none of them interracial. Tinder's proposal will be fairly simple: three new skin tones for both versions of the preexisting couple emoji. Accounting for all combinations, that would mean the addition of 21 new emoji.

Carbino says her primary responsibilities at Bumble will involve understanding users' experiences on the app and using that understanding to make effective product changes.

Blockchain Tech Is Shaking Up Online Dating

INFLUENCIVE - Mar 1 - Blockchain will add trust and transparency to the dating world. Rising blockchain startup Hicky plans to utilize blockchain technology to establish a level of trust lacking in today's online dating landscape. Users new to Hicky will be required to undergo a comprehensive verification process involving FaceScan technology and VoiceVerify. The app will reward users for good behavior but also punish them for sending inappropriate messages or being a no-show. All interactions within the Hicky network require Hicky Token (HKY); the cryptocurrency native to the platform. The Hicky public sale began on Valentines Day and is scheduled to continue until March 16th, or until 36K ETH is raised. The HKY token has a max supply of 481,500,000. 1 ETH will earn you 7,500 HKY through the ongoing token sale.

How Grindr Evolved Into More For Its 4M Users

PRWEEK - Feb 27 - When Peter Sloterdyk joined Grindr as VP of global marketing, the app had just under 3M daily active users and is now creeping its way toward 4M. Sloterdyk explains the main issue was that Grindr was considered to be mainly a gay hookup app. While this assumption is not completely incorrect, the brand wants people to know it is that, but also "so much more." "Over the past year, Grindr has launched a gay emoji keyboard to help users communicate in a way they are already using in their lives. It also unveiled Into, an online magazine, to provide people with information, editorial content, and stories with global perspectives. The brand is also continuing its Slumbr event series, a 36-hour party that helps people "experientially connect with Grindr and see us in a different way," Sloterdyk says. Sloterdyk is also changing up Grindr's marketing strategy for India and its surrounding countries to ensure the brand has an on-the-ground presence there.
