I currently use Paypal, but I am ready to switch to more traditional Credit Card processing. I was deemed high-risk when I applied for merchant services. Can anyone recommend for or against any specific high-risk merchant services? Is everyone in this forum using high-risk merchant services? Can someone give me advice on how to proceed with this step?

Thanks,
Mark

There are a few companies that service the Online Dating and Social Networking Space for payment processing.

JetPay and Echo are 2 companies Exhibiting at this year's iDate2007 event in Miami.

Safe Charge and Optimal Payments are 2 others.

By High Risk Processing, do you mean that you have an adult-oriented business. Usually that will make you a high risk merchant.

Less of a concern for any owner of a site is not the processor, but how to combat the credit card fraud that is rampant in this industry.

Hi Marc,
Thanks!! Well over the last month I got to learn more about merchant applications. It wasn't the industry that was making me high-risk. It was the volume of charges I expected, and the amounts (being too low) that were making me "high risk". As soon as I re-applied with larger volume amounts, the application was accepted.

Thanks for posting who's going to be in Miami from the credit card world.

Yours,
Mark Berry

I just ran into the same problem. Dropped twice for non approved business. I will look into the merchant banks listed. Thanks for asking before I did.

I think this site will be great for my business.

I wanted to jump in here also and say that if there is anyone else here having issues like Mark was having I would love to speak with you.

I can place you on a traditional 3rd party merchant account, or place you on your own merchant account, domestic or international.

Please email me before the show if you have questions so that we can set up a time to meet face to face.

I've worked with CCBill for a few years now and they are great for high-risk sites. So, yeah, I recommend them.

For an overview of payment processing see the post at Courtland Brooks analysis blog...

http://internetdating.typepad.com/court ... -paid.html

So You Want To Get Paid?

COURTLAND BROOKS - Oct 5 - Payment Processing companies charge from 2% to 15% of the sales price. And this doesn’t include setup fees, chargeback fees, and the cost of your time if the service is poor. So how can you get the best deal and the most services?

There are thousands of payment processing companies. Some specialize in the dating market, some do not. You need to interview a number of payment processing companies and ask the right questions. So what questions should you be asking? We’ve listed them here.

* Do they accept dating and/or adult sites?
* Will you qualify for a merchant account?
* Are They PCI Compliant?
* Does the Bank Pay You Directly?
* How many banks do they represent?
* Who owns the data?
* How much Customer Service assistance do you need?
* What method of payments do they accept?
* What currencies do they accept and settle in?
* What kind of risk management do they offer?
* Do they offer customized scrubbing?
* Can you set your own refund policies?
* What is their discount rate?
* What are their setup fees?
* When do you get paid?

If you want a greater understanding of how to get the best deal on a payment processing, Courtland Brooks offers a free report called, “So You Want to Get Paid.” You can download it here.

We're working on an update to the payment processors spreadsheet which lists an analysis of many of the payment processors being used by the idating industry.
