Here's and article I read about
Google's GPhone
It seems they want to use their own operating software for this. In the summer of 2005, they
bought a company called Android (
Android.com). Supposedly, the company and its software is super secret. The Android.com website looks like some one man operation (Andy Rubin). A start up with a bunch of techy gadgets......
The article goes further to state that according to the Wall Street Journal, Google is in negotiations with T-Mobile and Verizon. (My personal message to Google; "good luck" dealing with Verizon. They have great coverage with their CDMA in the USA, but their Biz Dev department is another story).
I am not sure that 'gphone' will be the name of the product. The
gPhone.com website is another company altogether (GlobalPhone Corporation) from Falls Church, VA. In addition, GooglePhone.com is owned by someone named Wolf Percival from Sheffield, UK (Note: Do NOT go to googlephone.com as it attempts to automatically load a WAP file into your system).
We'll see how this all ends up. But for social networking, they would have to integrate with the gPhone or face serious problems.
